and Tottenham Clouds visit to
Winchmore Hill Quaker Meeting House
An afternoon commemorating the achievements of Luke Howard
The theme of the first annual Luke Howard Legacy meeting will be Urban Climate Studies:
"Luke Howard identified virtually all of the factors that are responsible for the urban heat island (UHI) -
that he did so in 1820, at the very beginni9ng of the scientific study of weather and climate is remarkable. By any measure,
'Luke Howard's account is monumental'." International Association for Urban Climate (IAUC).
There will be a short tallk and discussion on the theme, followed by a visit to Luke Howard's grave in the Quaker burialo ground on the eve of the anniversary of his death on 21 March 1864, and an opportunity to view the plans of the Friends' burial ground.
The meeting house is easily reached by the W9 bus from Southgate or 456 towards Chase Farm,
which can be boarded in Cecil Road, Enfield Town and stops at St Paul's Church nearby.
It is also only a short walk from Winchmore Hill Railway Station.
